My idea for this project was to generate images that told a story- an alien invasion. I found the slight changes in prompts to the AI generators and how little or drastically the images changed to be very. I experimented with different prompts, and figured out exact wordings and phrases to input in order to generate specific images I wanted. Running into a few challenges, I had to adapt figure out how to overcome them. Specifically, the style I wanted wa seemingly difficult for AI to produce. Using the Photoshop AI, NightCafe, and Dalle, I asked for images of a family watching TV and added the word 'vintage' or '60's' to it. Every AI image generator I tried seemed to have a hard time producing vintage style images. To get the style I wanted, I ended up having to use photoshop to add the vintage look manually. Additionally, I had a lot of trouble with Audacity. I know most people favor Audacity, but I was only able to produce images that looked like TV static. Thankfully, I had a TV in my project, so I used the images of static to mimic a TV's poor connection. While I had some difficulty, I think the project was a success. My favorite image I made is the one posted above. Using NightCafe, I got this image of an alien. I chose this one because of the surrealness of it and how it looks like an intelligent higher being. In Hex Edit, I was able to glitch the photo, getting this colorful static look. I did this multiple times to get different variations then put them in a timeline on Photoshop to make a gif. Pixel Sorting also worked well for me. It took quite a few tries to figure out which aspects to manipulate, but I found that making slight changes and/or one change at a time was the most successful.
Before this project, I was always weary about AI. I was a bit scared of it, and it seemed like a sort of doomsday device, but I learned that it can be used for good. Other classmates' projects were beautiful real works of art that really changed my point of view about AI. Now that I know how to use it, especially for art making, I will definitely be using in the future.
